MBW 8 & 9 RELOCATION OF COMMUNICATIONS HUB – Marine Barracks Washington is home to the “Commandant’s Own” Marine Drum & Bugle Corps and the “President’s Own” U.S. Marine Band. Barracks Marines conduct ceremonial missions in and around the National Capitol Region as well as abroad. They also provide security at designated locations around Washington, D.C. as necessary, and Barracks officers are part of the White House Social Aide Program. The barracks complex is one of the oldest government buildings in continuous use in Washington, D.C., and provides General Officer Housing as well as the Commandant’s house and his required information technology and communications services. MBW is a hosting environment for specialized tenant applications, services and data storage. It also provides all standard installation communication connections and services to include housing a Defense Red Switch Network Node (DRSN). MBW requires access to Marine Corps Enterprise Network (MCEN) Unclassified, MCEN Classified, Defense Switched Network (DSN), DRSN and Commercial Telephone Services. AT/FP Considerations: Restricted Area Level 2 and meet Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) requirements.
RTECH provided telecommunications design services for a new Communications Hub and relocation of telecommunications demarcation rooms for fiber and copper. Design was done in compliance with the Secretary of the Interior Standards for renovation and reuse of historic structure. Relocation and renovation of this occupied complex presented significant challenges that required vigilant planning and phasing, with each phase divided into multiple components to facilitate an expedited schedule.
RTECH SERVICES INCLUDED:

- Complete/comprehensive survey of existing conditions of spaces being utilized for the renovation as well as utilities that may be impacted by the proposed work, including , existing telecommunications systems routing paths and available spare conduit between the existing and proposed locations. Survey of the existing Communications Hub to ensure operational and phasing requirements are met for relocating the equipment.
- Design of a new Telecommunications Hub with spaces required for supporting equipment at MBW.
- Design of new pathways between the existing and proposed locations and their security requirements.
- Relocation of data equipment from building 8 in building 9.
- Relocation of demarcation rooms for fiber and copper lines.
